My brother Ken

My brother Ken

February 12, 1965 – August 15, 2011

The pain is over dear brother.
You are free as a butterfly.
You inspired millions of laughs in your short life.
Never lost you child-like sense of wonder, of play, of imagination.
Endured so much…yet taught so many to smile through it all and keep moving forward.
Look! Is that a pot of gold…and a rainbow just up ’round the bend?
Sleep well, my crazy elfish Huckleberry Friend.
Lie back in your Lazy Boy recliner.
Here’s the remote.
I’ll switch on the mancave party lights for you.(flamingos&  palm trees)
Comedy Central.
Stewert….Colbert…Family Guy.
…….just keep smiling.
And laughing all the way.

Love,
Jack

Woody Allen, Cole Porter & Jack in Paris

I feel drunk with nostalgia. Glassy eyed from images too beautiful to describe.
Dazzled by music and lyrics…. ear candy.
And I found the cinematic soulmate I had not identified with in many many years in woody allen’s main character,Gil, in his current release,  “MIDNIGHT IN PARIS”.
For I too find myself fantasizing about the golden age of any time but the Present.
Like Gil, I suffer from Nostalgia.

I long For the days When songs had memorable and clever lyrics.
Lyrics like Cole Porter George Gershwin And Lorenz Hart used to pen.
Sublime simple melodies.
Laced across jazzy fluid hypnotic chords.

Its why, as a songwriter in the last few decades, I wrote songs with a loving tip of the hat to all these great writers.
And dreamed of singers like tony bennett covering my tunes.
I was able to give tony bennett 2 of my songs.
He and his people enthusiastically embraced them!
Everyone thought my songs were perfect for tony to sing.
Except the record company.

So I took my songs on my little cassettes back to my studio apartment in new york…. my paris…. and waited.

Every night at midnight Gil is picked up in an imaginary car and taken to all the places and to all the people he has dreamed about.
People that encourage him and his writing.
His personal heroes that love is artist soul.
They GET HIM!

I GET GIL.

TONIGHT WOODY ALLEN brought me and my Artist’s Soul to Paris and my Golden Age as never before.

Thank you.
Mr. ALLEN, YOU DO SOMETHING TO ME.
